Public Practice Accountant

We are seeking a newly designated accountant or individual that is close to receiving their CPA designation. The successful candidate must have excellent English - both verbal and written communications skills. Perhaps you have worked as a bookkeeper, or as an accounting technician, and are read to put your education into play. Eighteen (18) months of experience in a Canadian Accounting Office is required. Accuracy and intermediate QuickBooks skills are a must - as well as a recent Corporate level taxation course. Problem solving is big for us, we want you to have the ability to “find it” and “fix it”.

Some clients will require on-site service, so reliable transportation is required. A successful candidate will already be living in Canada, and preferrably Calgary. All candidates must be fluent in English.

Day-to-Day Tasks

  • GST return preparation and filing

  • Preparation and maintenance of government remittances: filings, accounts receivable, expenses accounts payable and payroll transactions.

  • Set-up client files and other aspects of accounting work

  • Perform the month-end and quarter-end closing process.

  • Maintain, monitor and reconcile GL accounts, including but not limited to, cash, bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrused liabilities, intercompany, and point-of-sale (POS) system uploads.

  • Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies, and discuss with team members and/or business owner.

  • Communicate with governments regarding information requests, assessments and installments

  • Work with accounting software and provide support to clients as needed

  • Develop and maintain relationships with client management

  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve workflow and processes in the office.

Requirements

  • CPA Designation or near completion of it

  • 18-Months of experience in a Canadian Accounting Office

  • Experience in Corporate Tax specifically

  • Fluent in written and verbal English

  • Experience with QuickBooks

  • Recent Corporate level taxation course

  • Problem solving skills
